The Castle Village on Portsmouth Harbour

White Hart Lane

Street guide, Portchester

A residential road running east from the village centre towards the boundary with Paulsgrove and the city of Portsmouth. Named after a pub that no longer stands, the lane passes through areas of interwar and postwar housing. It is a well-established residential street with a settled community feel. White Hart Lane connects to Leith Avenue, Northern Road and other streets in the eastern part of Portchester. The eastern end of the lane marks the approximate boundary between the Borough of Fareham and the City of Portsmouth, and residents here sometimes feel pulled between two identities. The street is well served by bus routes and is a short walk from the railway station.
