Southampton Road
Street guide, Portchester
Part of the old A27 route, Southampton Road runs along the northern side of Portchester, connecting the village towards Fareham to the west. It is one of the busier roads in the area, carrying through traffic as well as local journeys. The road has a mix of residential properties, some dating from the interwar period, set back behind front gardens. Traffic can be heavy at peak times, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. The road provides access to the western side of Portchester and the Cams Alders area. Bus services run along Southampton Road, connecting the village with Fareham town centre. The road is wide enough to accommodate the traffic but can feel noisy for residents of the houses fronting it.
