The Castle Village on Portsmouth Harbour

Castle Passes to English Heritage

undefined

Portchester Castle was transferred to the care of English Heritage (now Historic England's management arm) in 1984 as part of the reorganisation of historic properties formerly managed by the Department of the Environment. Under English Heritage, the castle has been conserved, interpreted with new signage and information boards, and opened to the public as a visitor attraction. The castle is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade I listed building. Entry is ticketed, and the site draws visitors from across the country.
