Cornaway Lane Area
Settled residential area with family housing and school
The Cornaway Lane area covers the residential streets running south from West Street towards the A27. It is one of the most established residential parts of Portchester, with housing stock ranging from interwar semis to 1960s and 1970s estates. Cornaway Lane itself is a key route connecting the village to the main road, and it gives access to several cul-de-sacs and closes that branch off it. Castle Primary School, the village's main primary school, lies in this area, making it popular with families. The streets are generally quiet and leafy, with mature gardens and a settled suburban feel. Portchester Crematorium sits at the southern end of the area, set in well-kept grounds on the edge of the built-up area. Further south, the land opens out towards the downs and the M27, but the residential streets themselves feel self-contained and sheltered. There is a small parade of shops on the corner where Cornaway Lane meets the main road.
